Goodwin
FAt Goodwin, we partner with our clients to practice law with integrity, ingenuity, agility, and ambition. Our 1,400 lawyers across the United States, Europe, and Asia excel at complex transactions, high-stakes litigation and world-class advisory services in the technology, life sciences, real estate, private equity, and financial industries. Our unique combination of deep experience serving both the innovators and investors in a rapidly changing, technology-driven economy sets us apart.
Goodwin is committed to promoting diversity within our firm and in the legal profession, and also to fostering an inclusive environment in which each attorney and professional can excel and thrive. Diversity and inclusion are core values at Goodwin, and we believe that they make us stronger as a firm, as a provider of legal services, and as an employer. We believe that equity demands a diverse workforce and legal profession, and we have a long track record of enabling equal access to the legal system through our extraordinary pro bono efforts and our broad non-discrimination policies. Our affinity group co-chairs work closely with firm management and our dedicated team of DEI professionals to drive our DEI strategy. Firmwide key initiatives include Pride@Goodwin, a committee that focuses on recruiting, advancing, and retaining LGBTQ+ attorneys and promoting a culture of inclusion across the firm; CRED@Goodwin, the firm’s Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity, which seeks to foster a deeper sense of community and engagement amongst the attorneys of color at the firm and to help our attorneys of color navigate life at Goodwin; and Women@Goodwin, a committee focused on advancing and retaining women attorneys at Goodwin. Each affinity group hosts annual retreats at the firm that allow their respective cohorts to build fellowship and learn from their shared experiences at the firm while engaging in a series of professional development and cultural events. They also have local councils in each office that serve to build community, develop trainings, execute events (often with clients), and provide support to historically underrepresented populations of our firm.
As an important next step in our diversity, equity, and inclusion journey, in January 2020, Goodwin announced bold public retention and advancement goals to be achieved in the next five years.
By January 2025:
- The diversity of (i) Goodwin’s senior associate population and (ii) its population of partners and equity partners elevated in the preceding five years will match or exceed its entry-level associate diversity, which is 50% gender diverse, 35% racioethnically diverse, and 10% LGBTQ+ diverse; and
- The collective composition of all firm leadership committees will be at least 40% diverse.
